Ok but I really like this case. The culprit was very unexpected and, even though I already remembered who it was from my first time watching, it was still really good and fun to notice all the little clues. Also it's kinda nice to see a corrupt cop in this show once in a while, especially cuz this show always seems to praise the police. It's a nice break.

They really tried to make us believe Heiji literally died, like ok.

Gotta say, something about these old episodes hits different.

The scene where Heiji flips on the guy and talks about being a disgrace to the Sakura on his badge was quite the scene.

Old episodes have the charm that the new episodes completely lack tbh even though the animation back then were not great but the murders were so much more brutal, now it feels like the victim’s asleep with cola spilled on top of them

I think it's really a case of burnout.

I think when the series first started, not only for Gosho, but for us as viewers, we were most invested in the cases
The cases certainly were written to be more interesting I think and there was more passion from the characters too.

I think nowadays only the Black Organization arc episodes are really well done and interesting in plot-line, the normal cases are really hit or miss

Or I should say that back in these old episodes there was room to really develop the story. As the story progresses, it gets filled more and more, and the characters are solidified more and more, that unless you keep introducing new characters or elements its hard to keep the story new.

With these old episodes, you have just these passionate cases that aren't part of the black org arc, or cases that developed the characters outside of the black org arc.

But like all things, when Conan has been going on for over 20 years, and we as viewers have watched over one thousand episodes, and Gosho has written hundreds of chapters and cases, it just grows stale.
The theme is still there of being a detective show, but the charm isn't.

Oh yea, and the music sells so much of the show. I really wish they had the same type of music they played at the end of the cases. I swear we just don't hear the type of sax and sounds that we do when Hattori says "You're a disgrace to the sakura on your badge". But I haven't had time to catch up to the latest episodes so I can't remember.
